Raceway Heritage. Old-School Mini-Truck Style.

Leroy is a 1977 Datsun 620 King Cab with a unique history as a track-support truck at Sacramento Raceway.

After spending years in storage, Leroy is getting a second life through Venturi Fab. Unlike some of our more extensive projects, this build focuses on preserving the truck's history and character while creating a clean, reliable, old-school mini-truck.

The plan is straightforward: get it running, clean it up, bring it closer to the ground, and make it a truck that's as enjoyable to drive as it is to look at.

The Build

Current Configuration

  • Original Datsun 620 King Cab platform
  • Existing four-cylinder drivetrain
  • Factory-style suspension
  • Original bodywork and Sacramento Raceway history
  • Complete vehicle, currently undergoing recommissioning

Current Development

The initial phase focuses on reviving Leroy after years of storage.

  • Interior and engine-bay detailing
  • Fuel and ignition system service
  • Mechanical inspection and engine startup
  • Brake and drivetrain evaluation
  • Preserving the truck's raceway identity

Future Development

Suspension: Air bagged with modified factory suspension in the front and a bag over leaf setup in the rear to air out as low as possible without cutting into the factory inner fenders.

Wheels & Tires: Traditional mini-truck styling with properly fitted wheels.

Interior: Refresh the existing interior while retaining the truck's original character.

Exterior: Preserve the original bodywork and Sacramento Raceway heritage rather than pursuing an extensive body transformation.

Mechanical: Straightforward reliability and drivability improvements.

Follow the Build

Leroy's revival will be documented through Venturi Fab, from its first startup after years of storage to its transformation into a traditional custom mini-truck.
